The Royal Bahamas Police Force wants to ensure that students remain safe as they head back to classes. We are encouraging everyone to remain alert and mindful as students head back to school.

Students:

• Students should walk on sidewalks and use marked crosswalks wherever they are available. When there is no sidewalk, stay on the side of the road so that you can see oncoming traffic.


• Always look both ways before crossing any street. Make eye contact with drivers to ensure they have seen you, and wait for cars to stop.


• When waiting for the school bus or public transportation, stand back from the roadway until the bus has come to a complete stop.


• Be alert. Wearing headphones or walking and texting may pose risks, as you may not be aware of nearby traffic.


• Watch for pedestrian crossings, know how they work, and obey them when in use and follow the crossing guards instructions.

• Slow down and always respect the speed limit in school zones.


• Yield to pedestrians at crosswalks.


• Always pay attention to crossing guards and buses when letting passengers off.
