Traffic and Road Safety

The number of road crashes in The Bahamas that end in death are too high. Excessive speed has been the prevailing cause of many of these road deaths. There is a need to heighten public education campaigns to road users on the danger of excessive speeding and to abide by the Road Traffic Laws. We will intensify our approach and response to ensure compliance to all road traffic laws and regulations. This will be done through greater visibility of traffic officers in strategic locations.

WE WILL:

• Enforce the Road Traffic Act and Regulations;


• Increase the number of speaking engagements on road safety at schools and other public forums;


• Collaborate with owners of driving schools to ensure safety components in the curriculum;


• Deploy officers at strategic checkpoints and others at problematic locations at peak times;


• Use Close Circuit Television (CCTV) to monitor major intersections;


• Issue Fixed Penalty Notices in New Providence, Grand Bahama, and the Family Islands;


• Deploy more motorcycles to increase police visibility;


• Introduce new speed detection technology; and


• Increase the use of speed guns to enforce the speed limits.

The Royal Bahamas Police Force encourages the citizens, residents and visitors to share the road, whether you are a pedestrian, cyclist or motor vehicle driver. We all have a role in making our roads safer for everyone
