Police advisory concerning planned Labour Day Motorcade

It has come to the attention of the Commissioner of Police that persons are preparing for motorcades to be held tomorrow Friday 4th, of June 2021, which is recognized as Sir Randol Fawkes Labour Day. Please be advised that no permission has been granted by the Competent Authority or the Commissioner of Police to hold such an event. Persons are encouraged to follow the Covid 19 safety protocols. Any person found in contravention may find themselves cited for the various offences outlined in the Emergency Order. Please govern yourselves accordingly.

Police are investigating a Police involved shooting

Police on the island of New Providence are investigating a police involved shooting which occurred on Thursday 3rd, June 2021.

Preliminary reports are that shortly after 1:00 p.m. officers responded to a compliant of a male wielding a cutlass in the area of Jubilee Gardens. On arrival at the scene, they met a male suspect armed with a cutlass. One of the officers ordered the suspect to drop the weapon, he refused to do as ordered and ran off.

A chase ensued, the suspect later came to a stop, turned around and charged towards the officers. One of the officers became aware of the threat to their lives, discharged his service weapon in the direction of the suspect, injuring him. He was later transported to the hospital by Emergency Medical Services and is listed in stable condition. Investigations into this matter continues.
