March 30, 2021 POLICE IN A JOINT OPERATION DISCOVERED A QUANTITY OF SUSPECTED COCAINE Preliminary reports are that, shortly after 9:00 a.m., acting on intelligence a joint operation was launched by OPBAT which included the US Coast Guard, Drug Enforcement Administration, US Customs and Boarder Protection, and the Royal Bahamas Police Force Drug Enforcement and Marine Support Units. The team while in Governors Harbor, Eleuthera, conducted a surveillance operation in the vicinity of the Governors Harbor airstrip. A search was conducted among the trees along the airstrip. During the search, officers discovered six (6) assorted colored duffle bags in bushes. An inspection of the bags revealed packages containing a white powdery substance suspected to be cocaine. There was a total of 155 kilos which collectively weighed 403 lbs. The suspected drugs have a street value of 3.1 million dollars. As a result of further intelligence, the officers located a blue and white Piper Astec twin engine aircraft believed to be connected to the discovery of the drugs. Police are in search of two males ages 28 and 37 years who are persons of interest with respect to the investigations into this matter.
POLICE ARE INVESTIGATING A TRAFFIC FATALITY Preliminary reports are that shortly before 2:00p.m., police were summoned to a traffic accident which occurred on Sir Milo Butler Highway. Officers arrived on the scene and found a male who was ejected from his vehicle, being attended to by an Emergency Medical Technician. The male was conscious and was able to identify himself as the driver of a green Chevy S-10, which received roll over damage. The victim was transported to the hospital and later died as a result of the injuries he sustained.
Initial investigations revealed that the victim was travelling north along Sir Milo Butler Highway in the western lane when he lost control of his vehicle and flipped over. He was ejected from the vehicle as a result and received serious injuries. The Royal Bahamas Police Force Traffic Department will continue investigations into this matter.
