Police have arrested two Venezuelan males for possession of dangerous drugs

Preliminary reports are that sometime around 11:45 p.m. on Wednesday, 22 December 2021. Officers from Crock Island Police Station heard the sound of an aircraft circling the Crooked Island Airport located Colonel Hill. They became suspicious and immediately went to investigate. On their arrival at the airport they observed a twin engine aircraft parked on the runway with its door open.

As the officers approached the aircraft two Caucasian males were observed running from the craft into the nearby bushes. A chase ensued and moments later the suspects were captured. They were taken back to the aircraft, where a search was conducted in their presence. During the which, the officers discovered a total of 44 plastic rapped packages and 12 small bricks. A field sampling of the content in a number of the packages, revealed a powdery substance suspected to be cocaine.

The suspects, who are both Venezuelan nationals were arrested and taken into custody for possession of dangerous drugs and other related offences. They are assisting police with the investigation into this matter. A count of the drugs revealed a total of 1254 kilos of suspected cocaine which weighed 3142 pounds and has an estimated street value of $25,080,000.00 (Twenty five million eighty thousand dollars).

Police are investigating a recent homicide

Detectives on the island of New Providence are investigating the events surrounding the death of an adult male which occurred on Thursday, 23 December 2021. Preliminary reports are that the shortly after 8:00 p.m., Police received information of a male being shot on Roberts Street, Winton Meadows. Officers were dispatched and on their arrival they discovered an unresponsive adult male slumped over in the front driver seat of a vehicle that was parked in a driveway. The officers examined the body and discover a wound to the head that was consistent with gunshots. Emergency Medical Services visited the scene and pronounced the victim lifeless. This matter remains under active investigation.

Police advisory to holders of Licensed Firearms

The Firearms Licensing Authority wish to remind the holders of licensed firearms that the 2022 licensing period commence on 1st of November 2021. The fee for shotguns is $150 and $300 for rifles. Licensed holders are also reminded that a late fee of $50 begin on 15th January 2022.
