Police removed 4 Firearms and ammunition from the streets of New Providence, three males arrested

The crime fighting strategies implemented by the Royal Bahamas Police Force have again resulted in the removal of four firearms and ammunition from the street of New Providence. Three male suspects were arrested

In the first incident, preliminary reports are that shortly before 6:00 p.m., on Monday, 15th November 2021, officers from the Operations Unit were on routine patrols in the area of Reeves and Armbrister Street, Fox Hill. While there, they noticed males acting in a suspicious manner. The officers approached the suspect and conducted a field check. During the search, a pistol was discovered in the suspects’ pockets. He was arrested and taken into custody for Possession of an unlicensed firearm, investigation into this matter continue.

In the Second incident, preliminary reports are that shortly before 12:00 noon, on Tuesday, 16th November 2021, officers from the Drug Enforcement Unit while in the area of Mt. Royal Avenue conducting inquiries, observed a male who aroused their suspicion. On seeing the police the suspect walked to the rear of a building. One of the officers pursued the suspect.

During the pursuit, the officer noticed when the suspect place a hand in his waist and removed a firearm. The officer then order the suspect to drop the weapon, he complied with the officers’ demand. On closer inspection, the officer discovered that the firearm was a pistol that contained 12 rounds of unfired ammunition. The male was arrested and taken into custody for Possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition. Investigation into this matter continues.

In the third incident, preliminary reports are that shortly before 12:00 noon, on Wednesday, 17th November 2021, officers from the Cable Beach Division executed a search warrant on a residence located in Bozine Town. During the search, one of the officers found a modified unlicensed shotgun. As a result, an adult male was arrested in connection with this incident for Possession of an unlicensed firearm. Investigation into this matter continues.

In the fourth incident, preliminary reports are that shortly sometime around 2:00 p.m., on Wednesday, 17th November 2021, officers from the Anti-Gang and Firearms Unit were directed to an abandoned building located Heart Hill Road, Fox Hill. The officers search the building and later found a pistol containing (10) unfired rounds of ammunition. No arrest was made during this incident.

Police advisory to holders of Licensed Firearms

The Firearms Licensing Authority wishes to remind the holders of licensed firearms that the 2022 licensing period commences on the 1st of November 2021. The fee for shotguns is $150 and $300 for rifles. Licensed holders are also reminded that a late fee of $50 begins on 15th January 2022.
