Police arrested three males for Possession of Unlicensed Firearm and ammunition

The proactive crime-fighting strategies employed by the Royal Bahamas Police Force have resulted in the removal of two firearms and a quantity of ammunition from the streets of New Providence on Saturday 13th November 2021.

In the first incident, preliminary reports are that shortly before 12:00 noon, officers from the Mobile Unit were on routine patrol in the area of Market Street and School Lane. While there they noticed two male occupants of a beige Daihatsu Move who aroused their suspicion. The vehicle was brought to a stop and a field search was conducted. While searching the vehicle the officers found a pistol. As a result, two adult males were arrested for possession of an unlicensed firearm. Investigation into this matter continues.

In the second incident, preliminary reports are that sometime before 2:00 p.m., officers from the Operations Unit while in the area of Bozine Town, observed the occupant of a silver Nissan Tiana who aroused their suspicion. The vehicle was brought to a stop and a field search was conducted. During the search, the officers discovered a pistol and (15) unfired rounds of ammunition. This resulted in an adult male being arrested for Possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition. Investigation into this matter continues.

Police advisory to holders of Licensed Firearm

The Firearms Licensing Authority wishes to remind the holders of licensed firearms that the 2022 licensing period commences on the 1st of November 2021. The fee for shotguns is $150 and $300 for rifles. Licensed holders are also reminded that a late fee of $50 begins on 15th January 2022.
