Police are investigating a shooting incident

Detectives on the island of New Providence are investigating a shooting incident that occurred on Monday 1 November 2021 which resulted in a male being detained in hospital.

Preliminary reports are that sometime after 10:00 p.m., police responded to sounds of gunshots emanating from Prison Lane. While in route to the scene, officers came upon a vehicle that collided into the wall of the Police Headquarters compound located on East Street. A male emerged from the vehicle and started running north along East Street. He was intercepted, it was then discovered that he was suffering from gunshot wounds. The victim was transported to the hospital, his condition is not known at this time. This matter remains under active investigation.

Police are investigating an apparent drowning

Preliminary reports are that shortly before 9:00 a.m., on Monday 1ST November 2021 officers from the Royal Bahamas Defense Force, while patrolling the northern coastline of New Providence, fished the unresponsive body of an Asian adult male from the waters. The victims’ left leg appeared to have been bitten off. He escorted to shore, where Emergency Medical Services examined the body and pronounced it lifeless. Police will await an autopsy report to determine the exact cause of death and identification by a next of kin to confirm the victim’s identity. Investigations into this matter continue.

Police have recovered an unlicensed firearm and ammunition

Preliminary reports are that sometime after 7:00 p.m., on Monday 1st November 2021 officers while on routine patrols in the area of Sea Breeze Lane, observed a group of males gathered at an abandon building. The males ran on seeing the police. As a result, the officers became suspicious and conducted a search of the abandoned building. During the search a revolver along with (12) unfired rounds of ammunition was discovered. No arrest was made during this incident, investigations into this matter continue.

Police advisory to holders of Licensed Firearm

The Firearms Licensing Authority wishes to remind the holders of licensed firearms that the 2022 licensing period commences on the 1st of November 2021. The fee for shotguns is $150 and $300 for rifles. Licensed holders are also reminded that a late fee of $50 begin on 15th January 2022.
