August 29, 2021 Police are investigating a drowning incident Preliminary information is that shortly before 1:00 p.m., police received reports of a drowning and the victims were brought ashore at the Montague dock. Officers responded and on their arrival, they spoke to the captain of a 21 feet fishing vessel. The captain pointed out the bodies of two males aboard the vessel to the officers. They examined the bodies and found them to be unresponsive. Emergency Medical Services visited the scene and pronounced the bodies lifeless.
Initial investigations revealed that a crew of three men went out on a fishing trip early Saturday morning. Two divers went into the water to spear fish in the area of Rose Island. Sometime later during the expedition the divers came up with their catch. While enroute to another fishing drop one of the divers collapsed. The captain proceeded to render First Aid.
The second diver, realizing that his colleague may have been suffering from the lack of decompression. He then dove into the water in an attempt to decompress. Moments later the captain saw the second diver floating atop the water. He then retrieved him from the water and rendered First Aid. The captain then made his way to shore at the Montague dock. Investigation into this matter continues.
