NEW PROVIDENCE

11 WEAPONS AND MORE THAN 130 ROUNDS OF AMMUNITION SEIZED BY POLICE

The Royal Bahamas Police Force's resolute commitment to removing guns from the streets has led to the successful confiscation of eleven (11) pistols and more than one hundred and thirty (130) rounds of ammunition.

The Anti-Gang & Firearm Investigation Task Force has officially charged seven (7) adult males with possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition following the successful confiscation of the firearms and ammunition between March 25 and 31, 2024.

The Royal Bahamas Police Force remains committed to the ongoing efforts of crime reduction and creating safer communities.

OPERATION “ISLAND PRIDE” YIELDS POSITIVE RESULTS

A collaborative effort between the Royal Bahamas Police Force, Royal Bahamas Defence Force, and the Bahamas Customs Department resulted in the successful execution of a joint operation titled "Island Pride."

A total of sixteen (16) motorcycles and seven (7) all-terrain vehicles that were unlawfully imported into the country were seized by Customs Department personnel during the operation which occurred on Potter's Cay Dock on Sunday, March 31, 2024, between 1:30 a.m. and 9:30 a.m. Additionally, fourteen (14) traffic citations were issued by police officers to individuals found in violation.

The public is encouraged to abide by all laws governing the Commonwealth of The Bahamas, as failure to do so, will result in person’s being placed before The Magistrate’s Court.

THREE MEN ARRESTED FOR FIREARM POSSESSION

In separate incidents on Sunday 31st March, 2024, police arrested three (3) adult males following the confiscation of two (2) high-powered weapons.

The first incident occurred shortly after 7:00 p.m. in the Nassau Village area. According to initial reports, two (2) male occupants in a dark-colored vehicle fired gunshots at another male outside a residence on Jackson Street.

Officers from the Drug Enforcement Unit, while conducting inquiries in the area, responded and observed the vehicle responsible; the officers attempted to intercept it, however the suspects sped of which resulted in a brief chase that ended on Spruce Street after the perpetrators vehicle collided with a wall, and evaded police.

A search of the surrounding area, by police resulted in a high-powered weapon containing ammunition being discovered at the rear of a property.

Acting on information, police arrested a 36-year-old male shortly thereafter in the vicinity of Spruce Street in connection with this incident. Police are actively searching for the second suspect.

The final incident occurred just after 11:00 p.m. on Prince Charles Drive. According to reports, two (2) unknown males exited a black Japanese vehicle following a traffic collision. It is reported that both males brandished firearms and confronted another male motorist in an attempt to rob him of his vehicle, but they were unsuccessful and fled into nearby bushes.

Responding officers thoroughly combed the nearby bushes and caught both males, aged 18 and 19, and also confiscated a high-powered weapon.

The Anti-Gang & Firearms Investigation Task Force will continue investigations into these matters.

POLICE SEEK SUSPECTS IN RECENT SHOOTING INCIDENT

Police are aggressively searching for three (3) males, responsible for a shooting incident that has left six (6) people, five (5) adult males and a 16 year old male hospitalized.

Preliminary reports indicate that around 6:00 p.m. on Monday 01st April, 2024 the victims were standing at the front of a business establishment on Peardale Road, south of Wulff Road when a small silver vehicle pulled alongside.

It is reported that two (2) males, both of whom were armed with firearms exited from the rear of the Japanese vehicle and opened fire on the group.

The victims, ages 44, 41, 37, 23, 20 and 16 years were all taken to hospital, via private vehicle and Emergency Medical Services personnel where they are being treated for non-life threatening injuries.

One of the victims is presently being electronically monitored for Manslaughter and Possession of Firearm and a second victim have matters pending for Attempted Murder and Possession of Dangerous Drugs.

Police are investigating, and appeal to members of the public who may have any information that can advance the investigation to contact the Criminal Investigation Department at 502-9991/2 or 502-9975/6, or CRIMESTOPPERS @328-TIPS.

BIMINI: STOLEN VEHICLE Police in Bimini seek the public’s assistance in locating a maroon 2008 E-Z-GO Golf Cart L/P # SB0289 that was reported stolen on Sunday 31st March, 2024 from Bimini Way.
