Deputy Commissioner of Police

Anthony James Ferguson joined the Royal Bahamas Police Force in 1980.  He has served in the Family Island Division, the Central and Southern Divisions in New Providence, as Supervisor of the Sexual Offences and Mr. Anthony FergusonSerious Crime Squads of the Criminal Investigations Department, Head of the Homicide Squad of the Central Detective Unit,  Commander of the Drug Enforcement Unit and as  Officer in Charge of the Central Division.

He has completed various Training Courses in Management and Leadership both locally and internationally. These include Criminal Investigations at West Yorkshire Police Training School, United Kingdom;  Advanced Sex Crimes Investigations Techniques, Public Safety Institute, Rollins College, Winter Park, Florida;  Sexual Crimes Investigation, Metropolitan Police Institute, Dade County, Florida;  Homicide Investigations, Public Agency Training Council, National Criminal Justice Academy , Jacksonville, Florida;  Homicide/Serious Crimes Investigations sponsored by the Federal Bureau of Investigations of the U.S. Department of Justice;  International Commanders Programme,  Bramshill, U.K. and a Training Course at the Drug Commanders Academy, El Paso, Texas.

He has participated in a number of  Drug Enforcement-related Conferences in The Bahamas as well as in Cuba, Turkey, Puerto Rico, Venezuela, St. Kitts, Peru,, Mexico, Brazil and in Jamaica.

Over the years, he has headed investigations into a number of high-profile murder cases.

ACP Ferguson is the recipient of a number of Awards and Commendations including the Commissioner’s Commendation for Homicide Solvency Rate of 81% and for Outstanding Homicide Investigations.  Additionally, he has received the Police Force Medals for Meritorious Service, Long Service and Good Conduct.

Born in Mt. Thompson, Exuma, ACP Ferguson is a graduate of the Exuma  Senior High School.   He continued his education at the Bahamas Baptist Community College in Nassau, Bahamas, where he graduated with an Associate of Arts Degree in Law and Criminal Justice.  He was awarded a Post Graduate Certificate in Criminal Justice and Police Management by the University of Leicester, United Kingdom.

He is a member of Epiphany Methodist Church, where his family also worships.
