On Thursday 23rd February, 2017, the INTERPOL - Integrity in Sport National Workshop was held at the Paul H. Farquharson Centre. The one day symposium was hosted by representatives from INTERPOL Global Capacity Building and Training Department in conjunction with the International Olympic Committee and National Olympic Committee.

The sessions were facilitated by Daniela Giuffre, Project Manager and Dieter Braekevekd, Training Officer, INTERPOL Integrity in Sport. The objectives of the workshop was to develop knowledge and understanding of the global competition; Identify current good practices, Ways to prevent competition manipulation, Corruption in sports and to encourage global, regional and national partnerships.

The Honorable Dr. Daniel Johnson, Minister of Youth Sports & Culture gave the keynote address.

The three main sections presented at the workshop were the police, sports and gambling. Organizations represented included:

  • Ministry of Youth Sports & Culture
  • Gaming Board
  • Royal Bahamas Police Force
  • Bahamas Olympic Committee
  • Bahamas Boxing & Swimming Federations
  • Various Sporting Associations

The facilitators concluded the workshop by reiterating to the participants that corruption in sports is organized crime and requires global cooperation to address it.
