FIREARMS AND DRUG SEIZED IN EXUMA OPERATION, TWO MEN IN CUSTODY

Consistent with the Commissioner's Policing Priorities for 2017, police in Exuma conducted an operation on that island that resulted in the seizure two handguns and a quantity of dangerous drugs on Tuesday 6th June 2017.

Two men were also taken into custody.

In the first incident around 5:30am, officers assigned to the Exuma Division on operation in February Point near Governors Harbour searched an abandoned building and found a .22 pistol with two rounds of ammunition. No one was arrested for this seizure.

Then around 6:30am, officers in the Exuma Division on operation in Farmers Hill searched a derelict vehicle and uncovered a .45 Springfield pistol with eight rounds of ammunition. No one was arrested for this seizure.

In the final incident, shortly after 2:00pm, Exuma Division officers on operation in Ramsey, Exuma conducted a search of a home and uncovered several small packages of marijuana. Two male residents of the home were taken into custody in connection with this seizure.

DROWNING VICTIM DIES IN HOSPITAL

POLICE are investigating the death of a Chinese man who was swimming in waters off Cable Beach on Tuesday 6th June 2017.

According to reports, shortly after 7:00pm, a Chinese man was swimming with co-workers in waters west of a Hotel near Goodman's Bay when he lost consciousness and was taken to shore by co-workers who performed CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation) until emergency personnel arrived. The victim was then taken to hospital and despite extensive CPR efforts he later died in hospital.

An autopsy will be performed to determine the exact cause of death and investigations are ongoing.

SUSPECTS ARRAIGNED ON MURDER AND ARMED ROBBERY CHARGES - GRAND BAHAMA

Police in Grand Bahama arraigned two suspects on two separate matters before the Magistrate Court on Tuesday 6th June 2017.

The first suspect to be arraigned was Isiah Walkine age 23 years of Holmes Rock, Grand Bahama. He was arraigned before Magistrate Charlton Smith in Magistrate's Court #2 on an armed robbery charge. He was not required to enter a plea and the matter was adjourned to the 1st August 2017 for a preliminary enquiry. He was remanded to the Bahamas Department of Correctional Services in New Providence until trial.

This is in connection to a matter that was reported to police on Friday 26th May 2017.

The second suspect is Anthony Dames age 19 years of Beacons Field, Grand Bahama. He was arraigned before Magistrate Gwendolyn Claude at the Eight Mile Rock Court on a murder charge. He was not required to enter a plea, and the matter was adjourned to the 7th September 2017 for trial. Prosecution is expected to proceed by Voluntary Bill of Indictment. He was remanded to the Bahamas Department of Correctional Services until trial.

This is in connection to a matter that was reported to police on Monday 29th May 2017.
