POLICE MAKE DRUG SEIZURES IN ELEUTHERA AND NEW PROVIDENCE

Consistent with the Commissioner's Police Plan for 2017, Police in Eleuthera and New Providence seized a quantity of dangerous drugs in separate incidents on Thursday 30th March 2017.

In the first incident, shortly after 12:30pm, police assigned to the Eastern Division conducted a search of a busy area located on Gun Hill Road where they uncovered a quantity of marijuana in a pillowcase.

In the second incident, shortly after 12:30pm, police assigned to the Eleuthera District were on mobile patrol on Russell Island, when they saw a man standing on the side of the road with a bag on his shoulder acting suspiciously. The man on seeing the officers dropped the bag to the ground and fled on foot. The officers gave chase but were unable to catch the man. The bag was searched and two pounds of marijuana was found.

Then shortly before 6:00pm, police in Harbour Island, conducted a search of a premises on Barrack Street, where they found a plastic bag containing 26 small foil wraps with marijuana. An adult male was taken into custody in connection with this find.

POLICE SEIZED TWO FIREARMS

Consistent with the Commissioner's Police Plan for 2017, police seized two firearms off the streets of New Providence on Thursday 30th March 2017.

According to reports, shortly after 10:00am, Mobile Division officers were on routine patrol in the area of Dunkirk and Johnson Roads, when they saw a man walked out of a building with a box in his hands. The man on seeing the officers dropped the box and fled on foot. The officers gave chase but were unable to catch the man. The box was searched and found to contain two .308 Rifles along with an imitation shotgun.

Investigations are ongoing.

POLICE PROBE STABBING DEATH, THREE FEMALES AND A MALE IN CUSTODY

Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the stabbing death of a man that occurred on Friday 31st March 2017.

According to reports, around 12:30am, a fight broke out among a group of persons at Potter's Cay Dock that led to a man being stabbed. The man was transported to hospital where later succumbed to his injuries.

Three adult females and an adult male are in custody assisting police in this investigation.

Investigations are ongoing.

POLICE PROBE ALLEGED DROWNING DEATH OF A MALE VISITOR

Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the apparent drowning death of an adult male visitor from Texas, USA that occurred on Thursday 30th March 2017.

Reports are that shortly after 12:30pm, a man was snorkeling with several other males in waters off Western New Providence, when he lost consciousness. The victim was transported to shore where he was pronounced dead.

Investigations are ongoing.
