About the Airport Division
The Airport Police Station is located on John F. Kennedy Drive, east of the Lynden Pindling International Airport. It is presently under the command of Assistant Superintendent Dennis Dames.
The station was formerly known as the Western Police Station under the Western Division along with Cable Beach and Lyford Cay Station.
The Western Police Station was established in 1977 as a sub-station under the Western Division and was located on John F. Kennedy Drive within walking distance of the airport. Its primary responsibility was the policing of the then Nassau International Airport. The Commissioner of Police at the time along with his top team saw a need to have the presence of the police within the airport terminal, and as a result, the Airport Police Station was established.
This was done with the view of having a 24 hour police presence within the airport terminal to ensure the security of the buildings, aircrafts, cargo sheds, business establishments and navigational systems.
Years later, the airport underwent a huge renovation process which affected the security services, which was increased by the formation of the Airport Authority Security Department. This arm of security was given the Airport Police Station to operate from and the Airport Police Station was moved back to its former home on John F. Kennedy Drive where it stands today. The station's goals and objectives remains the same.
