NEW PROVIDENCE

ARRAIGNMENT

Police would like to inform the public that on Tuesday, April 2, 2024, at 10:00 a.m., the Drug Enforcement Unit will present two adult males, a 38-year-old male from Brazil and a 28-year-old Correctional Officer, before the Magistrate’s Court for separate drug-related offences.

In the first instance, the 38-year-old Brazilian male is charged with the following offences:

  • Possession of Dangerous Drugs with Intent to Supply
  • Conspiracy to Possess Dangerous Drugs with Intent to Supply
  • Importation of Dangerous Drugs
  • Conspiracy to Import Dangerous Drugs

The accused is charged in connection with the confiscation of eight hundred and eighty (880) pounds of cocaine valued at $7,580,000.00.

The incident occurred on Tuesday, March 26, 2024, where the accused was arrested during a joint operation on the island of Mayguana involving police on the island of Mayaguana, Operation Bahamas Turks & Caicos (OPBAT), the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA), and the Drug Enforcement Unit (DEU).

In the second instance, the 28-year-old male Correctional Officer is charged with the following offences:

  • Possession of Dangerous Drugs with Intent to Supply
  • Taking Prohibited Article into a Correctional Facility.

The accused was discovered attempting to smuggle electronic devices and a quantity of marijuana into the correctional facility on Saturday, March 30, 2024, while reporting for duty and undergoing mandatory screening at the Bahamas Department of Correction Services.

SPECIAL OPERATION YIELD POSITIVE RESULTS

The Royal Bahamas Police Force, The Royal Bahamas Defence Force, and The Bahamas Department of Immigration conducted a joint operation on Abaco Island, resulting in several arrests, including two adult males for drug possession, confiscation of a firearm, and issuance of twenty (20) traffic citations.

The operation took place from March 29 to 30, 2024, and involved road checks in Forest Drive, Central Pines Dual Way, and S.C. Bootle Highway areas.

Police wish to remind the general public that these operations are ongoing; hence, the public is encouraged to abide by all laws governing the Commonwealth of the Bahamas, as failure to do so will result in persons being placed before the Magistrate’s Court.
