FAMILY ISLANDS EXUMA

POLICE INVESTIGATE BOATING ACCIDENT

Police are actively investigating a boating accident that has claimed the life of a 55-year-old female visitor from Colorado, U.S.A.

The incident reportedly occurred shortly before 11:00 a.m. on Sunday 24th March, 2024, in waters near Staniel Cay, Exuma.

According to initial reports, a married couple, was onboard a dinghy when their vessel collided with another pleasure craft vessel which resulted in the couple being thrown overboard.

The couple sustained severe injuries, and were retrieved from the water where Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) was administered to the female, who was unresponsive. Both victims were transported to a nearby medical facility where the female was examined by a Medical Doctor who confirmed, no vital signs of life, and pronounced her dead.

The adult male was airlifted to New Providence where he is being treated in hospital for his injuries, which are listed as critical.

Investigations into this matter continue.

NEW PROVIDENCE

POLICE CONFISCATES FIREARM & DRUGS: SUSPECT ARRESTED

Officers from the Southwestern Division and the

K-9 Unit collaborated in separate incidents on Sunday, March 24th, 2024 resulting in the apprehension of an adult male subsequent to the discovery of a firearm containing ammunition, as well as a quantity of suspected cocaine and marijuana.

During the first incident around 6:30 p.m., officers, acting on information, went into the Gambier Village area, where they conducted a search at a business establishment on Fernander Road and discovered on the property a firearm containing ammunition, which led to the arrest of a 29-year- old male. Additionally, a search was performed on this suspect, and a quantity of suspected cocaine was found in his possession.

In the final incident, around 8:00 p.m., officers, acting on information, arrived in the Dignity Gardens area, where they conducted a search of a bushy area and seized a large quantity of suspected marijuana. No arrest was made in connection with this incident.

The estimated weight and street value of the suspected cocaine and marijuana are currently unknown. Investigations continue.

POLICE INVESTIGATE ARMED ROBBER

Police are searching for a lone gunman who reportedly robbed a male of his 2013 purple Nissan Cube L/P #AX3529 on Sunday 24th March, 2024 while in the area of Montrose Avenue.

Preliminary reports indicate that around 7:30 p.m., the victim and his family members were sitting in their vehicle in front of a business establishment when a slim-built, tall, dark-skinned male, brandishing a firearm, approached them. It is reported that the culprit demanded that he and his family exit their vehicle, to which they complied. The suspect entered the vehicle and fled north on Montrose Avenue, making good on his escape.
