NEW PROVIDENCE

POLICE PROBE LATEST HOMICIDE

Police are currently conducting an investigation into the death of an adult male resident of Nassau Village who was fatally shot on Friday 05th January 2024, shortly before 8:00 p.m.

According to initial reports, the victim was standing at the junction of Forbes Street and Alexandria Boulevard when the occupants of a gray Nissan vehicle approached him. Further reports indicate that one male exited the vehicle, armed with a firearm, and fired multiple gunshots at the victim.

The victim sustained multiple gunshot injuries and managed to run a short distance before ultimately collapsing. Emergency medical personnel arrived on scene, examined the victim and determined he showed no signs of life.

The deceased is known to the police; he was not being electronically monitored; however, he was recently detained for a serious offence.

Police are appealing to members of the public, particularly the residents of the Nassau Village community, who may have any information that can help solve this matter to contact 919/911, the Criminal Investigation Department at 502-9991/2, or Crime Stoppers at 328-TIPS.

DRUGS AND FIREARM SEIZED BY POLICE

Police confiscated a firearm and quantity of suspected dangerous drugs in the Sea Breeze area on Friday 05th January, 2024.

Preliminary reports indicate that around 4:20 p.m., officers, acting on information, went to Taiga Avenue and conducted a search of an abandoned structure, leading to the retrieval of a highpowered weapon and suspected marijuana.

The estimated weight and street value of the suspected dangerous drugs is currently unknown. Investigations continue.

POLICE PROBE LATEST HOMICIDE

Police are currently conducting an investigation into the death of an adult male who was fatally shot on Saturday 06th January 2024, around 2:30 p.m. in the vicinity of East Street North.

According to preliminary reports, when responding officers arrived at the location, they found an adult male lying at the base of a stairwell suffering from gunshot injuries to his upper torso.

Emergency medical personnel were summoned to the location, they assessed the victim and determined he showed no vital signs of life.

Acting on intelligence, officers from the Mobile Division (Saturation Patrols), conducted a search of a nearby property where they discovered and subsequently seized a firearm with ammunition believed to be connected to the fatal shooting.

Police are uncertain of the circumstances surrounding this incident and are seeking the whereabouts of one of the suspects connected to this incident, who was dressed in a black jacket and black tam and fled in a cream-colored Nissan vehicle traveling south on East Street.

TWO FIREARMS SEIZED BY POLICE

In two (2) separate incidents on Saturday 06th January, 2024, police seized two weapons that contained ammunition.

In the first incident, officers from the Mobile Division (Saturation Patrols) arrested a 23-year-old male after he was found in possession of a firearm and counterfeit currency.

Initial reports revealed that around 10:20 a.m., the officers were alerted to reports of an adult male being at a business establishment situated on Robinson Road and Ethel Street in possession of Bahamian counterfeit currency. This prompted officers to conduct a search of the suspect and his vehicle. While searching his vehicle, the officers discovered a handgun with ammunition, which led to his arrest.

In the second incident, Officers from Operation Cease Fire confiscated a firearm in the area of Lazaretto Road.

Preliminary reports indicate that shortly before 4:00 p.m., the officer’s acting on intelligence proceeded to Olga Street where they confiscated a handgun containing ammunition from a vehicle.

No arrests were made in connection to this incident. Investigations continue.

ADVISORY: FALSE REPORT

The Royal Bahamas Police Force seeks to officially notify the general public on the dissemination of misleading information through social media platforms.

The circulated content asserts the occurrence of “an officer from the Royal Bahamas Defence Force being responsible for shooting his wife in the Carmichael Road area”. It is crucial to emphasize that this information is entirely inaccurate and constitutes false news.

Following investigations by officers from the Southwestern Division into a domestic dispute at a home in the Carmichael Road area, officials are satisfied that there was no evidence to support a shooting took place.

Police wish to remind the public that making Defamatory Statements and Publications with knowledge that the incident is untrue is a criminal offense and any person(s) found in violation will be prosecuted under the Statute Laws of the Bahamas.
