NEW PROVIDENCE

POLICE INVESTIGATE ALLEGED SUICIDE

Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the alleged suicide of a 22-year-old female which occurred on Friday 08th March, 2024.

Initial reports indicate that around 1:30 a.m., police were alerted by hospital authorities that a female was brought into the facility in an unresponsive state. Medical personnel made efforts to resuscitate her; however, they were unsuccessful, and the female succumbed.

It is reported that the female ingested an unknown liquid substance. An autopsy will be conducted to determine, the exact cause of death. Investigations are ongoing into this incident.

OPERATION CEASFIRE SEIZED DRUGS: SUSPECTS ARRESTED

Officers from Operation Ceasefire arrested a husband and wife, ages 44 and 40, along with a 20-year-old male, after they were found with a large quantity of suspected marijuana.

According to reports, shortly after midnight on Friday 08th March, 2024 officers, acting on intelligence, executed a search warrant on a residence located on Poitier Avenue, seizing 6.5 pounds of suspected marijuana worth an estimated $6,500.00. Investigations continue.

THREE ADULTS ARRESTED FOR FIREARM AND AMMUNITION POSSESSION

Three adults, one male and two females, were apprehended by the police during “Operation Eagle Claw” after a firearm and a large quantity of ammunition were confiscated on Thursday 07th March, 2024.

Initial reports confirmed that a team of police officers from the Drug Enforcement Unit, K-9 Unit, Mobile Division, Central Intelligence Bureau and Operation Ceasefire, along with the Royal Bahamas Defense Force, executed a search warrant at a residence on Forbes Street in Nassau Village shortly after 2:00 p.m. During the search, officers discovered a loaded firearm and a large quantity of ammunition, leading to the occupants of the residence, a 26-year-old male and two females, 63 and 23, being arrested.

The Anti-Gang & Firearms Task Force Unit will continue investigations into this matter.

NORTHERN BAHAMAS

ABACO: MALE ARRESTED FOR DRUG POSSESSION

Police in Abaco arrested an adult male at a residence in Murphy Town on Thursday 07th March, 2024, after discovering a quantity of suspected dangerous drugs.

Initial reports indicate that shortly after 6:00 p.m., officers conducted a search warrant at a home off Forest Drive. The search resulted in the seizure of a large quantity of suspected marijuana, leading to the arrest of the sole occupant, a 31-year-old male.

The drugs weighed 2 pounds with an estimated street value of $2,000.00. Investigations are ongoing.

GRAND BAHAMA: ARRAIGNMENT UPDATE

Police in Grand Bahama presented a 48-year-old Bulgarian male before the Magistrate’s Court charged with the offence of Rape on Wednesday 6th March, 2024.

The suspect pleaded not guilty; however, bail was denied, and the matter was adjourned to June 11, 2024 for a voluntary bill of indictment.

This is in connection with an alleged sexual assault incident that occurred onboard a cruise ship between Friday, March 1, 2024, and Saturday, March 2, 2024, involving an Albanian female.

NEW PROVIDENCE

AMERICAN VISITOR SERIOUSLY INJURED IN TRAFFIC ACCIDENT

A 34-year-old American male visiting from Boston, Massachusetts, is hospitalized following a traffic collision that occurred in the vicinity of the toll booth, on the Sir Sidney Poitier Bridge.

Preliminary reports, indicate that on Thursday 07th March, 2024 sometime around 11:00 p.m., the victim, was operating an electric scooter north along the bridge, with a male passenger, when he reportedly lost control and was thrown from the scooter along with his passenger.

The operator, sustained severe head injuries and was transported to the hospital where he remains in critical condition.

The Police Traffic Division is conducting further investigation.
