NEW PROVIDENCE

POLICE CONFISCATE A HIGH-POWERED WEAPON

Police, aided by ShotSpotter Technology, confiscated a high-powered weapon off Meadows Street on Wednesday 28th February, 2024.

According to initial reports, around 3:30 p.m., officers proceeded to Rupert Dean Lane after being alerted by ShotSpotter Technology to multiple gunshots being detected in the area. Upon their arrival to the location, officers did not observe anyone in the area; however, officers conducted a thorough search of the immediate area, where they discovered a high-powered firearm at the rear of an abandoned structure.

No arrests were made in connection with this incident. Investigations are ongoing into this matter by the Anti-Gang & Firearms Task Force Unit.

NORTHERN BAHAMAS

GRAND BAHAMA: OPERATION YIELDS POSITIVE RESULTS

In a firm commitment to reducing criminal activity in Grand Bahama, the Royal Bahamas Police Force conducted a joint operation titled “Cold Steel”.

On Wednesday 28th February, 2024, from 4:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., officers from the Anti-Gang & Firearms Task Force, Drug Enforcement Unit, Rapid Response Unit, K-9 Unit, Central Intelligence Branch, Marine Support Services, and Bahamas Department of Immigration participated in this joint operation with a focus on targeting prolific offenders and criminal hotspots.

The joint operation yielded great results, with the execution of several search warrants at various locations that led to the seizure of two (2) firearms, including a high-powered weapon, a large quantity of ammunition, and a quantity of suspected marijuana. These discoveries led to the arrest of three (3) individuals.

The estimated weight and street value of the suspected marijuana are currently unknown.

Investigation are ongoing.

ABACO: DRUGS CONFISCATED

Police in Abaco confiscated a quantity of suspected dangerous drugs in two (2) separate incidents on Wednesday 28th February, 2024, resulting in the arrest of an adult male in one of the matters.

The first incident took place around 5:20 p.m., off Forest Drive. According to preliminary reports officers, acting on information, conducted a search of a bushy area and discovered a large quantity of suspected marijuana. No arrests were made in connection with this discovery.

The second incident occurred at a residence in Central Pines around 6:40 p.m. Initial reports indicated that the officers executed a search warrant at a residence, where a large quantity of suspected marijuana was found. As a result, the sole occupant, a 30-year-old male, was arrested.

The estimated weight and street value of the suspected dangerous drugs are currently unknown.

Investigations are ongoing into both of these matters.

MEDIA COVERAGE

The Royal Bahamas Police Traffic Division is seeking to educate members of the public on the proper use of the roundabouts due to the escalating number of accidents occurring at the roundabouts.

Hence, commencing at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, February 29th 2024, the Traffic Division will launch its Road Safety Awareness Education Campaign at the Independence roundabout.

SUSPECTS ARRESTED FOR FIREARM AND DRUG POSSESSION

An adult male and female were arrested by police while at their residence on Thursday 29th February, 2024, following the seizure of a weapon and suspected dangerous drugs.

According to preliminary reports around 1:00 p.m. Police officers and Defense Force officers, attached to Operation Cease Fire, executed a search warrant at a home on Croton Road, off Faith Avenue where they discovered a firearm and a quantity of suspected marijuana, leading to the arrest of a 33-year-old male and a 23-year-old female.

The estimated weight and street value of the suspected dangerous drugs are currently unknown.

Ongoing investigations will be conducted by the Anti-Gang & Firearms Investigation Force and the Drug Enforcement Unit.
