NEW PROVIDENCE

FIREARMS CONFISCATED, SUSPECTS ARRESTED

In separate incidents, a collaborative effort involving the Anti-Gang & Firearms Investigation Task Force along with the K-9 Unit resulted in the confiscation of two (2) firearms and a quantity of suspected marijuana, leading to the arrest of six adults.

In the first incident, on Thursday 11th April, 2024, around 11:30 p.m., a team of officers executed a search warrant at a residence on King’s Court in Yellow Elder Gardens. During the search, an unlicensed firearm containing ammunition was found in the home, resulting in the arrest of two (2) male occupants, aged 26 and 20.

In the final incident, on Friday 12th April, 2024, around 1:40 a.m., officers executed a search warrant at a residence on Clarine Close off Claridge Road, where they discovered an unlicensed firearm and a quantity of suspected marijuana. This resulted in the arrest of the four occupants, two males aged 23 and 18, and two females aged 43 and 24.

The estimated weight and street value of the suspected marijuana are currently unknown.

Investigations continue.

POLICE SEEK HELP IN LOCATING DRIVER RESPONSIBLE FOR HIT & RUN

Police are requesting the public’s help in locating the driver responsible for fatally killing a 61- year-old male during a traffic accident that occurred shortly before 9:00 p.m. on Monday, April 8, 2024.

Preliminary reports revealed that the driver, who fled the scene after the incident happened, was allegedly traveling north on Sir Milo Butler Highway when the male pedestrian was struck as he attempted to cross the highway from the median to the western side of Sir Milo Butler Highway.

The vehicle in question is described as a red American model vehicle, with front-end damages.

Police are once again appealing to members of the public who may have seen or have knowledge of this fatal hit and run accident to contact the Traffic Division at 397-8050, 393-7713, or visit the nearest police station.

The Traffic Department is actively investigating this incident further.

ARMED ROBBERY INVESTIGATIONS UNDERWAY

Police are investigating three (3) separate alleged armed robberies, one of which led to the arrest of a male suspect.

The first incident occurred around 10:30 p.m., on Thursday 11th April, 2024, in the area of Mackey Street and East Bay Street. Preliminary reports indicate that the victim, while walking, was approached by an unknown male armed with a firearm who robbed her of her personal belongings before he fled, making good on his escape.

The second incident occurred around 11:30 p.m. on Thursday 11th April, 2024, in Flamingo Gardens. According to initial reports, the victim arrived at a residence on Great Britain Street in his vehicle, a burgundy 2018 Nissan Cube, when a white Japanese vehicle pulled behind him. It is reported that three (3) unknown males emerged from the vehicle, one armed with a firearm, and robbed him of his vehicle. The culprits fled the area, traveling south, followed by the white vehicle. Acting on information, police subsequently arrested a 20-year-old male in connection with this incident.

In the final incident, around 1:30 a.m. on Friday 12th April, 2024, initial reports revealed that the victim, while outside a business establishment on Soldier Road, was confronted by three (3) unknown gunmen who robbed him of his red 2007 Honda Accord L/P # AY0759 before they fled the area, traveling west along Soldier Road.

Police are appealing to members of the public to be on the lookout for the stolen vehicles. Anyone with information regarding any of these incidents, are urged to contact 911,919, the Criminal Investigation Department at 502-9991/2/3, or anonymous tips can be provided through CRIME STOPPERS at 328-TIPS (8477).

STOLEN VEHICLE ALERT

Police seek the public’s assistance in finding the following vehicles that were reportedly stolen on Thursday 11th April, 2024:

  • A silver 2014 Nissan Note L/P # AD1548 – stolen from Maria Rahming Drive
  • A 2008 Suzuki Swift L/P # AM5879 – stolen from Dominica Heights

RECOVERED

The following vehicles were recovered on Thursday 11th April, 2024:

  • A champagne 2013 Nissan Cube L/P # AE9653.
  • A champagne Nissan Tiida L/P # AL6609 which was reported stolen on 05th December, 2023.
  • A burgundy Nissan Versa L/P # AW2910 which was reported stolen on 17th March, 2024.

Police would like to thank members of the public for providing the information that assisted in the recovery of these stolen vehicles.

POLICE INVESTIGATE LATEST HOMICIDE

Police are actively investigating the fatal shooting of a 42-year-old male that occurred in the Kemp Road community on Friday 12th April, 2024.

Police were notified around 4:20 p.m., by its Shot Spotter technology of gunshots being detected in the vicinity of Apache Alley. Upon the arrival of responding officers, they discovered an adult male lying on the road, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.

According to preliminary reports, the victim, a sub-contractor for the Water & Sewage Corporation, was operating a private backhoe when a masked gunman in dark clothing approached and shot him multiple times before fleeing the area.

Emergency medical technicians responded to the scene, examined the victim, and determined that he showed no signs of life.

FIREARM CONFISCATED BY POLICE

Officers from the Mobile Division confiscated a firearm shortly before 1:00 p.m. on Friday 12th April, 2024.

According to preliminary reports, officers acting on information confiscated the weapon from a building under construction in the vicinity of Winders Terrace. No arrests were made in connection with this incident.

The Anti-Gang & Firearms Investigation Task Force will continue investigations into this matter
