NEW PROVIDENCE

MEDIA COVERAGE REQUESTED

The Royal Bahamas Police Force and the Saxons Junkanoo Group will launch its crime prevention initiative in the Mason Addition community at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday April 11th 2024.

In attendance will be the Member of Parliament for Centreville The Hon. Jomo Campbell (Minister of Agriculture and Marine Resources), along with Mr. Percy "Vola" Francis.

Media representative is requested to be at Police Headquarters no later than 3:30 p.m.

POLICE INVESTIGATE LATEST HOMICIDE

Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the fatal shooting of an adult male who was discovered off Cowpen Road on Wednesday 10th April, 2024.

Police were notified of the incident around 11:00 p.m. and upon the arrival of responding officers, they found an unresponsive male lying near a fruit stand opposite Montgomery Avenue with an apparent gunshot wound to the head.

Emergency medical personnel, attended the scene, assessed the victim and determined that he had no vital signs of life.

Police are appealing to anyone who may have information that can advance this matter to contact 911, 919, or the Criminal Investigation Department at 502-9991. Furthermore, anonymous tips are also welcome through CRIME STOPPERS at 328-TIPS (8477).

POLICE INVESTIGATE SEXUAL ASSAULT

Police are aggressively searching for two males who allegedly sexually assaulted a 51-year-old female on Wednesday 10th April, 2024 while armed with a firearm.

According to initial reports, around 10:00 p.m. the victim was conducting a check of a local property on Casino Drive, Paradise Island when she was approached by the men, who emerged from nearby bushes.

Anyone with information that can assist police with their investigations is asked to contact the Criminal Investigations Department at 502-9991/2.

POLICE INVESTIGATE ATTEMPTED SUICIDE

Police are investigating an alleged suicide attempt which occurred on Wednesday 10th April, 2024.

Initial reports indicate that shortly after 5:00 p.m., police were notified of the incident which involved a 35-year-old female of western New Providence who reportedly ingested a large quantity of over-the-counter medication.

The victim was taken to the hospital via emergency services, for medical attention and evaluation.

Investigations are ongoing.

Police are urging anyone experiencing mental health concerns, to communicate with family members, friends, religious leaders, counselors, or contact the Crisis Center at 328-0922.

POLICE INVESTIGATE SHOOTING INCIDENT

An investigation is underway into a shooting incident that occurred on Thursday 11th April, 2024, resulting in two males, a 22-year-old and a juvenile, being injured.

Police were alerted via its Shot Spotter technology shortly before 9:00 a.m., to multiple gunshots being discharged in the vicinity of Cambridge Lane and Nassau Street.

According to preliminary reports, the victims were standing in front of a residence when the occupants of a dark-colored Japanese vehicle approached and discharged multiple gunshots in their direction.

As a result, the 22-year-old sustained a gunshot wound to his left arm and a superficial injury to his upper torso, while the juvenile received a superficial injury to his right leg.

The victims were transported to the hospital by emergency services for further medical attention.

NORTHERN BAHAMAS

ARRAIGNMENT UPDATE

Police wish to inform members of the public that Leroy Cooper, aged 32, from Tamarind Street, was arraigned before Magistrate Laquay Laing in Court # 3 on Assault with intent to Commit Rape. He was not required to enter a plea and was remanded to the Bahamas Department of Corrections until June 26, 2024.

The defendant was charged in connection with an assault that occurred on Saturday, April 4, 2024, at a local resort in Eastern Grand Bahama involving a juvenile female.
